Our History:

It was the year 1919, when an institute was established in Calcutta to cater to the need for trained teachers. The Institute was name “Mosleem Female Training School” and housed in 17/1, Canal Street, Calcutta. This institute was probably meant for Muslim girls. With the passage of time the location and the name of the institute underwent several changes. In 1948 the institute was named Women Teachers’ Training School subsequent to its shifting to P-12, Darga Road, Calcutta 700017. Finally, in 1954, the Institute, then named Calcutta Women Teachers’ Training School made its way to its present location – 20B Judges Court Road, Alipore, Kolkata – 700027 and was housed in a building which was a part of the residential complex of the British Viceroy, Warren Hastings. Subsequently, the institute was renamed vide a Government Order and it became known as “Calcutta Women Primary Teachers’ Training Institute”. Now as per notification No 426- SED-13037/26/2022-ELEMNSEC Dept. of SE dated 22/09/2022 ,it is upgraded to DIET, KOLKATA .
